Happy World Mental Health Day!

Mental Health PSM

Today is the 25th anniversary of World Mental Health day. It is a day set aside to educate the public about mental disorders, the importance of available treatments, prospects for recovery, and ways of ending stigma while promoting mental health. Espere Community Counseling Center is working hard to bring awareness to these exact things in Haiti by offering individual and group counseling as well as community outreach programs.

The Espere team is already participating in big ways to improve mental health and awareness in Haiti. One staff member went to a march this past weekend where a small number of people gathered and walked to a mental health conference to raise awareness of the importance of mental health. Another is partnering with a malnutrition clinic and helping teach the parents how nutrition can effect their children's minds and development. Yet another is helping families of special needs children learn more about their child's disability through education and advocacy. A group of team members is also working to partner with the Haitian government and insurance companies to have them include mental health coverage in their policies. This team is passionate about bringing awareness and hope to all of Haiti.

This is only the beginning. Our staff has huge dreams of educating the country to rise up through improving mental health care. You can be a part of the team that is dedicated to strenthening individuals, families, and communities by providing counseling, community outreach support, education, and hope by volunteering your time or making a donation using the button at the bottom of the page.
